Originally the Watchet Royal British Legion Band, the West Somerset Brass Band was formed in 1952, and this year we are celebrating our 70th anniversary.
We are a traditional amateur brass band based in Watchet and are made up of muscians from around the region. Under the direction of our Musical Director, Niall Watson, a wide variety of music is performed which is the basis of the brass band’s universal appeal. This enables the band to undertake a wide range of engagements including church services, formal concerts, fetes and carnivals around West Somerset and beyond.
We currently have 26 players, but are always keen to welcome new members to join. We also have an active and succesful training band, where we welcome children and adults alike who are interested in learning a brass instrument and would like to join the band. Instruments are provided and we have a full training programme in place delivered by experienced teachers. It does not matter if you do not have any prior musical knowledge, all we ask is that you are keen to learn and have a go.
We visit Watchet’s twin town of St. Renan, Brittany every 2 years. Our most recent visit was in 2018 where we played 4 well received concerts in the French town.
