Macular degeneration disease (AMD) is the biggest cause of sight loss in the U.K. Over 1.5 million people are affected and many more are at risk, due to our growing age population. Minehead has one of the largest ageing populations and cases of macular disease is rising rapidly. Because of this, local volunteers David & Mary decided to set up a macular support group in Minehead and at their launch meeting in October 2019 they had 40 people who attended showing that there was a need for this service.
The group is there for anyone affected by sight loss etc, and want to encourage people to come along. Friends, family & carers are very welcome. The group can learn from each other while having refreshments and enjoy guest speakers on a variety of subjects, including experts on eye care.
There is always plenty of information leaflets & guides available at every meeting. The support group meets every third Tuesday of the month (no meeting in December) 2pm – 4 pm at the Millbridge Church Hall, 8 Parkhouse Road, Minehead TA24 8AB.
