The Peacocks’ first ever season in the Vanarama National League South is at an end with the team delighted in securing another year at that level with three games to go. A season impacted by a combination of wet and cold weather meant the club suffered a relentless run of fixtures from February onwards but despite such a demanding schedule the small squad of players stepped up to the plate to ensure survival whilst also achieving some excellent results along the way. The players gave everything for the club, each other and the fans to round off a successful inaugural season at this level.
The 2022/3 season saw local rivals Yeovil Town relegated from The National League and Weston-super-Mare confirmed as champions of the Southern League Premier South which means they both join the Peacocks next season for some mouth-watering local derbies. Plans are now underway for the 2023/4 season, with Head of Football Rob Dray commenting: “It has been a successful first year for us at National League level. It is an extremely demanding league and you cannot let your standards slip in any game because every side you play is capable of beating you so to stay in the division is a massive achievement. The travelling is also on another scale but this is what we want, the club are ambitious and we all want to progress further. I am very proud of the team for their efforts this season and I thank all our fans who have supported us both home and away. Planning is well underway for next season already and we look forward to another season at this level.”
A message from Chairman Kevin Sturmey.
“Thank you to everyone for supporting us this season. We can offer you a series of flexible options to support the club for the 2023/24 season and we look forward to seeing you as we continue our journey forwards”.
