Minehead Male Voice Choir is ready to hit the road

Minehead male Voice Choir

After a winter spent preparing new material as well as refreshing some old favourites, Minehead Male Voice Choir is making final preparations for a year of song, harmony and fun.

The year begins on the evening of March 25th with an away day trip to Barnstaple to join forces with the local Male Voice Choir, raising funds for their choir.

Exactly one week later – April 1st – the choir returns to one of its favourite venues to perform in Minehead Methodist Church in support of the fundraising efforts of Minehead Museum. The month closes with a performance on Sunday April 30th at 1.00pm as part of Minehead’s Steampunk Festival in Blenheim Gardens.

Two weeks later, on May 13th, the choir will travel to the Church of St Peter, Huish Champflower, to support the PCC’s fundraising efforts for this beautiful church.

June sees the choir cross the Bristol Channel into Wales to meet up with our old friends Cor Meribion Cwm Rhondda for what we know will be a warm evening of song and friendship shared with a glass of ale or wine. The next day, en-route back to Minehead, the choir will make a stop to meet new friends in Caldicot and enjoy their hospitality as we join together to share our music.

On July 1st the choir will be heard at the Somerset Armed Forces Day in Vivary Park Taunton. The application has been received and confirmed by the organisers and we are truly looking forward to the event. Later that month on Saturday 22nd July the choir returns to Blenheim Gardens in Minehead with a two-hour concert, where the stage will be shared with Dacorum Community Choir from Hemel Hempstead, who will be on a weekend tour of Somerset with a base in Dunster. This will be a more relaxed style of concert when the choir will appear in its polo shirt uniform.

The choir then takes a break in August before returning to the rehearsal room in Alcombe Methodist Church in September.

Plans are being finalised for a concert in Porlock Village hall on October 14th singing on behalf of the local Lions group to raise funds for the Ukrainian appeal. OnNovember 11th there will be a concert in St Andrew’s Church, Minehead, to support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal as well as the fundraising efforts of the church.

Ask any member of the choir what they enjoy about being part of the ensemble and they will all reply that they enjoy the banter and camaraderie of the group. Rehearsal sessions are concentrated and can be very intense, but all of our new recruits this year have made it clear they are in for the very long term. New recruits are the lifeblood of any choir and Minehead Male Voice Choir is no exception. All we ask is “..if you love to sing, we’d love to have you..”. Practices are every week on Monday evening in Alcombe Methodist Church from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Everyone is welcome. No audition is required, simply the ability to sing in tune.

This year the choir has welcomed seven new recruits into the ranks and hopes to see many more coming through the doors in Alcombe.
